How to recycle surf wax
Your wax belongs on your board — not in the bin. The OBRTO Wax Stash isn't just a container; it's a tool for getting more out of every block. The heat-resistant, non-stick TPU material lets you recycle every last gram of surf wax, turning messy scraps back into a solid, usable puck.
The 60°C Refresh Method
Follow these steps to reset your wax and stop throwing away perfectly good grip.
Step 1: Collect
Gather your clean wax scraps and place them inside your Round, Square, or Rectangle Wax Stash. Fill it up — the more scraps you have, the thicker your new puck will be.
Step 2: Set the heat (60°C)
Preheat your oven to 60°C. This is the sweet spot — hot enough to melt all major brands (Sex Wax, Sticky Bumps, Sticky Johnson, Fu Wax) while keeping both the wax properties and your Stash perfectly safe.
⚠️ Important: Always place the Stash on a flat baking tray. Do not exceed 80°C.
Step 3: Melt
Slide the tray into the oven for 5–10 minutes. The scraps will liquefy into a single clean pool. The sealed walls of the Stash keep everything contained — no mess in your oven.
Step 4: Cool and set
Remove the tray and let it cool at room temperature, or pop it in the fridge for a few minutes to speed things up. The wax will bond into a solid, uniform block as it cools.
Step 5: Flex and pop
Once solid, give the flexible sides of the Stash a firm squeeze. The non-stick TPU breaks the seal instantly and your recycled puck pops straight out — ready for the next session.
Keep adding to it
The Wax Stash is built for continuous recycling. If you already have a half-used puck, just add new scraps on top and remelt. The fresh wax bonds perfectly to the existing base, so nothing goes to waste.
Safety and care
- Clean scraps only — Make sure your leftovers are free of sand and hair for the best grip performance on your next session.
- Never leave unattended — Keep an eye on your oven during the melt.
- The freezer trick — If the wax is stubborn, pop the Stash in the freezer for 60 seconds. The TPU stays flexible while the wax contracts slightly, making it even easier to pop out.
